3D Digital Mammography.
From Selenia (2007) to Dimensions (2011) and 3Dimension (2018) with tomosynthesis, C-View synthetic imaging, contrast-enhanced mammography and R2/Quantra/iCAD CAD.
Since April 2007, every new technology brought into the Center has arrived with one purpose — to detect what had not been visible before. Many of these were introduced to Greece for the first time, and some first to Europe.
Early diagnosis does not depend only on experience — it depends on what we can see. Each time a new technique becomes available worldwide, our responsibility is to make it available here, too.
Foundation. Hologic Selenia digital mammography and Hitachi strain elastography.
Tomosynthesis era. Hologic Dimensions, R2 CAD, Quantra, Affirm stereotactic and Siemens S2000 ABVS.
Bioacoustic & contrast era. Acuson Sequoia, 3Dimension with iCAD and Barco 12k monitors.
AI era. Moncad AI for ABUS ultrasound — under evaluation since April 2026.
Every installation — every upgrade — has changed what we can diagnose today.
The first and leading digital mammography system of US company Hologic — the Selenia — installed in Athens. One of the two pioneering breast cancer detection systems with which the Center opened in April 2007.
The first ultrasound system with strain elastography of the breast and superficial organs — applied for the first time at the Center, in parallel with digital mammography.
The leading Hologic Discovery A DXA unit with 3D morphometry, CAD and a rotating head — for complete evaluation of osteopenia and osteoporosis, beyond standard density measurements.
The first super-fast imaging ultrasound with the advanced form of shear-wave elastography from the French company Supersonic Imagine. It made the technique quantitative — measuring elasticity of superficial and solid organs: breast, thyroid, liver.
Among the first digital mammography systems with tomosynthesis in Greece — Hologic Dimensions with R2 CAD and the Quantra automated breast density program. It changed breast screening and diagnosis forever.
New pioneering techniques and capabilities were later added to the Dimensions system — including the Affirm stereotactic biopsy platform.
The first ultrasound with two elastography techniques (strain and shear wave) that was simultaneously an Automated Breast Volume Scanner (ABVS) — the first in Greece dedicated to ultrasound screening of dense breasts.
Synthetic image generation from tomosynthesis was applied to mammography for the first time — Hologic C-View — reducing the radiation dose of the mammographic exam by 40%.
The workstation uses Barco Unity 12k monitors for the first time in Greece — dramatically improving the detection of small lesions in screening mammography.
Two new generations of Supersonic Imagine ultrasounds — Mach 20 and Mach 30 — with 3D elastography, steatosis and fibrosis measurements of the liver, advances in arterial intima-media measurement, and tri-view enabling simultaneous real-time display of breast, vessels and lesion elasticity.
The new Hologic Horizon densitometer was installed after the COVID era, adding new techniques: visceral fat measurement, full body composition analysis, and TBS (trabecular bone structure) for the spine — and recently for the hips.
The first Acuson Sequoia ultrasound in Europe was installed — Siemens Healthineers with bioacoustic technology.
In September 2018 the new Hologic 3Dimension digital mammography system was installed with multiple innovations — contrast-enhanced mammography, the SmartSlices program reducing reading time, and iCAD lesion detection and risk calculation. The quality of synthetic images is now superior to classical 2D, displayed on the high-resolution Barco monitors.
During this period the Center participated in the iCAD artificial-intelligence software development program — as an active clinical partner in the evolution of the technology.
In 2020 the Center took part in the clinical study of a novel cancer detection method using the Micrima Maria radiofrequency system.
In 2022 the pioneering Hologic Brevera stereotactic biopsy system was installed.
From 2022 to February 2023, two GE ultrasound systems were installed — Logic 10 with an ultra-high-resolution 20 MHz probe and two elastography techniques.
The new GE Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound followed, and was recently replaced by its newest version.
The latest addition to the Center — installed in April 2026 for evaluation: the Korean Moncad artificial-intelligence software, which automatically detects and risk-scores lesions on our ABUS ultrasound.
